THE COMPANY

This family owned and operated company was started in 1976 and has been in the Atlanta area continuously. Mutt and Jeff is a niche manufacturer of kettle cooked pork skins. We make a variety of washpot, bacon rind, cracklin, and chicharron pork snacks. The products are sold to independent distributors, and to retail and wholesale stores, they are also sold as private label products to other manufacturers.

Our customer base consists of over 1800 mostly independent grocery, convenience, and package stores, as well as truck stops and military commissaries. Our employees deliver on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, direct to stores in Metro Atlanta as well as Macon, Athens, Anniston, and other surronding cities. Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina are served by independent distributors.

As a specialty food distributor, we have expanded our resale product lines to include meat snacks (Slim Jim, Penrose, Bull & Hannah, and Pioneer), bagged and tube nuts (Barcelona), and ethnic hosiery. We also carry a variety of other miscellaneous items that we have picked up over the years upon requst of our customers.

Last fiscal year sales were 3.5 million and are expected to grow to 3.8 million this year. 40% of our sales were from manufacturing operations, and 60% from resale products.

Our reputation as a direct-store delivery company is second to none. The majority of our growth has been word of mouth referral. We enjoy a 40% market share in the metro market.

THE FAMILY

Mutt & Jeff mourns the loss of Tim Scaff. He lost his battle with Esophageal Cancer on January 14th 2010. He we an amazing man who will be dearly missed by his friends, coworkers, and family.

Tim Scaff came to Mutt and Jeff in 1984 as a half-owner and in 1994 bought out his partner. He has been joined by his wife and daughter. His daughter, Lori McCurry joined the company in 1997. She received her Bachelors in Business Administration, minoring in Business Management from Georgia State University. She is currently his business partner, being groomed to eventually take over the company.

Tim is from Long Island, New York. After serving in the Navy's Nuclear Program for 7 years, he earned a business administration degree with a minor in engineering from Dowling College. He later joined Beckman Instruments as a field engineer, and in over 10 years rose to Regional Customer Service Manager for the Southeast. He continued pursuit of a Masters in Management at VCU and Mercer.

Since joining Mutt and Jeff in 1984, Tim has written and funded a direct SBA loan to expand the manufacturing line. The company went from making a single hand cooked and hand packed product, to 15 varieties of products and an automated packaging line. The number of plant employees has increased from 3 to 8.

Mutt and Jeff started with the two owners driving vans delivering products. Now the company has 20 rack jobber route delivery employees and a fleet of 30 step vans. Local trucks deliver products fresh from the plant to the stores. They deliver to Macon, Athens, Carrolton, Rome, Commerce, and Tifton, and the greater Atlanta Metro area.
